Wikis and Widgets

The term wiki is inspired by a shuttle bus in honolulu. The wikiwiki shuttle at honolulu airport was a term for a quick bus service. A wiki online is a quick service linking similar websites together. The best known wiki is Wikipedia, but there are many others which are directed at specific interest groups such as the http://www.libsuccess.org/index.php?title=Main_Page, the library success wiki.

Wiki's allow casual users to have input into web page content and design. Whilst this means pages on wikipedia relating to contentious items are liable to be biased, it also means wiki pages are often not considered reliable for academic research. They are however a good way of sharing information and I will be looking at them more.

Widgets, wow they are fun. Web Gadgets. We visited www.widgetbox.com and selected a cute widget, or web gadget. Mine is maukie the virtual cat. Just what I need. There are two ways of adding a widget, the easiest was to press the big button that says add widget, then select blogger from the options that pop up.
